Emma Weeks

Qualifications: BA (Hons) Social Work, Diploma in Social Work, PG Diploma in Social Work.

Organisation: Emma works with The Open Polytechnic of New Zealand as an Academic Staff Member teaching across Certificate level and Bachelor level Social Health and Wellbeing programmes.

Brief Biography: Emma graduated in the UK in 2001 as a Social Worker. After working predominantly in the intellectual and disability field Emma moved to New Zealand and joined ABI Rehabilitation as the Social Worker for the Auckland residential and inpatient service in 2003. During Emma’s long-standing career with ABI Rehabilitation, she progressed into a Therapy Team Leader position and in 2015 was appointed as the Director of Rehabilitation for ABI Rehabilitation in Wellington.

Following her passion for education, Emma transitioned to The Open Polytechnic of New Zealand in 2017 to teach on and support the development of the Certificate level Health and Wellbeing qualification and has recently moved into an academic role delivering the Bachelor of Social Health and Wellbeing programme.

Emma completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Social Work with Auckland University in 2014.

Emma maintains an Annual Practising Certificate with the New Zealand Social Work Registration Board and full membership of the Aotearoa New Zealand Association of Social Workers. Emma provides professional supervision to other Social Workers working in the ABI field.

Involvement with INSWABI: Emma was appointed as an Executive Committee Member of INSWABI in 2010 at The 6th International Conference on Social Work in Health and Mental Health in Dublin and since then has regularly attended on line meetings and face to face meetings at further international conferences in LA, Singapore and York, UK.

Emma co-authored with fellow INSWABI committee members and presented on their behalf on the benefits of the e-network at The 8th International Conference on Social Work in Health and Mental Health Singapore in June 2016.
