Nordic Network on Disability Research (NNDR) presents the 15th interdisciplinary conference in disability research
Call for proposals – NNDR-Conference – Copenhagen 2019
Nordic Network on Disability Research (NNDR) conferences welcome researchers, policy makers, activists and practitioners to share scholarship and ideas, and provides an inclusive forum for Nordic and international collaboration in disability studies. Drawing on the NNDR tradition, we invite contributions to the conference from a wide range of perspectives, subjects and methodologies within disability studies. This year’s conference focuses on contemporary and historical perspectives on inclusion and exclusion in the society in general, and the welfare society in particular, as well as related challenges in terms of research, policy and practice. Currently, the welfare state’s ability to include all citizens, especially people with disabilities, is challenged. Inclusive intentions and politics are increasingly confronted with the dynamics of exclusion in modern society. While a rights-based approach influenced policy in postindustrial welfare states, neoliberal politics and strategies question the welfare state’s ability to include all citizens and secure their possibilities of participation in societal institutions and democratic processes. Through cultural, historical, sociological, ethical and other perspectives, this conference warmly invites you to participate in a common exploration of questions such as, but not limited to, the following:
How do the dilemmas in the welfare society play into the disability field, and what are the consequences for inclusion and participation of disabled people?
Which kinds of marginalization and othering occurs in current policy and practice?
How can disability studies develop new insights about future challenges of inclusion and about opportunities for inclusion?
What are the future challenges and opportunities we need to address and engage with as policy makers, activists, professionals and researchers?
